Pork products and meats such as beef, lamb, and kid (young goat) are key pillars of the cuisine currently found in the Berguedà region, including veal from the Pyrenean Brown breed. Nearly a hundred producers raise this breed using natural fattening methods, taking their time and feeding the animals with forage, grains, and legumes. This ensures that the meat is of superior quality.
Did you know that in the late 19th century, an advertisement in La Llumanera de Nova York magazine praised the quality of the sausages made by "Cardona Hermanos" of Berga? The publication highlighted their “excellent flavor” and added that they “stimulate the appetite.” Today, just as back then, Berguedà’s cured meats enjoy a well-deserved reputation far and wide.
